2010/2011 Registration/Membership Fees:

Instructions for completing the 2010/2011 Registration Package forms:

1) Download the Registration Package found HERE

2) Complete Forms A, B, C, D and E(optional);

3) save document and email to: our Manager with subject " HYS Registration 2020/2011 Season";

5) Please mail your payments to the address in the Registration Package.

HYS AUDITION INFORMATION FOR THE 2010/2011 CONCERT SEASON

Formal auditions have concluded for our 2010/2011 season. However, if you would like an opportunity to audition, please contact our manager

Audition Location
King’s Christian Collegiate: 528 Burnhamthorpe Road W. (at Neyagawa, less than 2 km north of Dundas/Highway 5), Oakville, Ontario. Click HERE for a map
Please meet the Manager on the second floor.

Instructions
1. To schedule an appointment time for an audition, please contact our manager. Your audition date and time will be confirmed by email or telephone.
2. Complete the Audition Form found HERE and the Registration Package found HEREand bring both, fully completed to the audition.
3. Please bring the $30 audition fee (if accepted, and musician joins the HYS, this will be applied against their registration fees)
4. Please arrive 10 - 15 minutes prior to your appointment time to hand in your Audition Form, tune your instrument and warm up.
5. Musicians must come prepared and meet the criteria outlined in the Audition Requirements.

Process
Halton Youth Chamber Orchestra Audition Requirements (strings only):
Minimum Playing Level: Completion of RCM Grade 4 or Suzuki Book 3 and working in next book level.
All musicians “returning” and “new” must prepare 2 contrasting pieces of music from either the RCM repertoire Grade 5 or Suzuki Book 4. Vibrato is an asset and some shifting is expected. Candidates will be required to sight read for the Conductor. Each candidate will be required to play 2 scales, 1 major and relative minor (harmonic and melodic) up to 2 sharps and 2 flats, with the arpeggios.

Audition Requirements (all instruments)
Minimum Playing Level for String Players: Completion of RCM Grade 6 or Suzuki Book 5 and working in next book level. String players must play from RCM repertoire Grade 7 or above (having completed Grade 6) or Suzuki Book 6 or above (having completed Book 5).
Wind, brass and percussion players should have at least 3 years of experience playing in a band or orchestra and will be assessed on their ability.

“Returning” Musicians: Musicians must prepare one (1) piece of their choosing, plus a short music extract which will be provided in advance of the audition date. They will be required to sight read an orchestral excerpt provided by the Conductor. Each candidate will be required to play the following scales: 1 major and 1 relative minor (harmonic and melodic) with arpeggios, up to two sharps and flats.

“New” Musicians: All new musicians must prepare two (2) contrasting pieces of music and provide the orchestral excerpt (mandatory). Also, new musicians are required to play a short music extract which will be provided in advance of the audition date. They will be required to sight read an orchestral excerpt provided by the Conductor. Each candidate will be required to play the following scales: 1 major and 1 relative minor (harmonic and melodic) with arpeggios, up to two sharps and flats.

Acceptance
Acceptance into the orchestra is based on ability, music grade level and the needs of the HYS at the time of the audition. The HYS Conductors make the final decision. You will be advised of the audition results in person, by phone or by email. If you have received confirmation of acceptance into the orchestra, you can complete the registration material. The HYS Registration package will be available for pick up at the audition or on-line.
