The Halton Youth Symphony
The Halton Youth Symphony (HYS) is a registered charitable organization (#118951359 RC) that offers young musicians the opportunity to develop their musicianship with orchestral experience.
The HYS consists of approximately 94 musicians in two orchestras. The younger orchestra, the Halton Youth Chamber Orchestra (HYCO), includes musicians from 9 to 14 years of age playing violin, viola or cello. Our senior orchestra, the Halton Youth Symphony Orchestra (HYSO), includes mostly high-school age musicians playing a full range of orchestral instruments.
Both orchestras attend a weekend retreat early in the fall, rehearse weekly between September and May, and perform at least three public concerts yearly. Musicians also perform in smaller groups at community functions.
The HYS welcome musicians from Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Halton Hills and other neighbouring municipalities. For more information about the Halton Youth Symphony, please contact our Manager at manager@haltonyouthsymphony.com or 905-616-2760.

International Trip |
In The Land of Composers Tour
The Halton Youth Symphony has organized an educational music tour for its senior musicians. The tour called "In the Land of Composers" is a 10 day trip (July 9-19, 2008) comprising visits to Salzburg, Vienna and Prague. As part of the tour, the senior musicians will be participating in the International Youth & Music Festival & Competition in Vienna, as well as, performing additional concerts in other cities/towns. This is a wonderful opportunity for our musicians and for the orchestra and will be an amazing experience in musicianship, team-building and sharing with other youth orchestras from across the world.
We are looking for sponsors or donors to help us offset the costs to attend this international youth and music festival and competition. The festival is organized by the Association for International Cultural Exchange and has earned a reputation as the leading youth music festival in the world. Please see our Sponsors & Donors web page for more information on how you can help us.
